The culmination of a years worth of fundraising efforts came to fruition on May 4, 2013, at Comeaux High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. All the funds from contributions, Carnival appearances, & Wizard World totaling over $5300 were turned in at the annual Relay for Life Event.
The Louisiana Ghostbusters were joined by visiting members from Alabama Ghostbusters, Mississippi Ghostbusters and Houston Area Ghostbusters for the 12 hour event. Setup started early Saturday afternoon with a start time of 6 pm for taking to the track. ECTO LA3 was on hand as a backdrop for folks to gear up and take our popular Buster Shots. Mr Stay Puft was even in attendance to support the cause.
With all the busters suited up and ready for opening ceremonies we headed to mid field. It was humbling to be able to participate in such a worthy event once again. After opening ceremonies we all headed to the track and cheered on the survivors as they made the first lap of the evening. Then it was time to hit the tracks as a team and hit it we did. The LAGB team, as team goal, kept no less than 2 members on track for the length of the event until well after sunrise. One member always was to keep our team’s spirit stick in tow. As the night pressed on so did the LAGB.
Relay Team Captain Denise summed it up best at the completion of the event “Great job at Relay, guys. Thank you to everyone who helped us raise the most money LAGB has ever raised for Relay. Thank you to
everyone who came out and made those laps…. those laps of hope represented the most important things we can give someone who is battling cancer. These things are a willing physical effort, an unselfish sacrifice of time, and a demonstration of the genuine concept that one should not have to battle alone. So again I thank everyone… except the wind.” Those attending Relay that evening can attest to how unusually chilly it was for a May evening.
