The Louisiana Ghostbusters wrapped up its annual season of fighting breast cancer with a wet, but elated walk around the UNO Lake Front Arena in New Orleans.
Combining efforts from several events our team was able to muster nearly $1,700.00 in donations from T-shirt sales, Buster Shot Sales, Street Donations, a parade appearance with the Louisiana Cattle Festival, and from family and friend donations.
To celebrate the end of Making Strides season, LAGB got together for the 4th year in a row and walked in solidarity with breast cancer fighters, survivors, and loved ones. The rain couldn’t dampen our spirits or tenacity as we completed not one or two, but three laps in full Ghostbusters gear in the rain.
LAGB will now shift its charitable efforts to Toys for Tots and then American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life beginning with an appearance at the Festival of Lights parade in Natchitoches, LA!
While at the event, we presented LAGB Member Denise Dejean with a Louisiana Ghostbusters Challenge Coin of Excellence for work above and beyond the call of duty volunteering with our organization as both a work horse and as an event leader. Denise was the Team Captain for our Making Strides group for the second year in a row.
Also receiving his challenge coin was James “Deuce” Gaspard. Deuce attends almost every single event LAGB participates in no matter how far. Just this year alone he’s travelled to Birmingham, Atlanta, and all over the State of Louisiana hardly ever missing an event. Deuce has set a prime example of dedication, commitment, dependability, and consistency within our organization and we’re lucky to have him.
Also making its debut at the event was Mississippi Ghostbusters Jessica Williams in her fresh new Ghostbusters costume with pink trim (perfect for a breast cancer event) and her new proton pack, Pinkie! Jessica and her husband Jason worked feverishly to modify the pack in time for this event and it came out wonderfully, right down to the imported pink LEDs.
A HUGE thanks to Jessica, Jason, her family, and LAGB/MSGB/ALGB member David Johnson for travelling so far to be with us that weekend. Also, thanks so much to everyone who donated, bought our wares, told us their survival and war stories about cancer, and who found ways to support us, financially or not. We couldn’t do it without you!
